How to Focus on Self-Care During Changing Times

There’s more to wellness than just exercising and focusing on healthy meals. Taking a comprehensive look at your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is vital for your overall wellness. We like to call this self-care. Here are a couple of our favorite approaches to self-care.

Stay Connected

We may be observing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected! Schedule a virtual coffee break or happy hour with your your favorite people. Keep it uplifting and tell each other one good thing that happened to you in the last week. Brainstorm plans for when you can see each other again and how nice it will be to give them an enormous, warm hug. Together we are more capable and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!

Follow a Flexible Routine

Create an agenda for your day but give your day some flexibility. For instance, get up around the same time in the morning and get ready for bed around the same time at nighttime. Outline your objectives for the day and slate out your work projects, but set aside some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to read your favorite book. Don’t be too rigid with your plan that you create avoidable stress. Finding a balance between routine and relaxation will help you have a more useful and enjoyable day.

Practice Gratitude

Thankfulness is good for humans. The more gratitude we offer to others during troubled times, the more cheerful and stronger we become. Offer others grace. One of our preferred ways to practice gratitude is to call a loved one and tell them how much you love them. A a written note is also an exciting and enjoyable surprise that is certain to make anyone’s day.

Get Outside

Nothing’s better than spending time outdoors, taking in the fresh air. Take a stroll with your pup every day after lunch. Wave hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and ask them how they’re doing. Stay in the sunshine for 10 minutes and focus on taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!

Find Joy

Just because we can’t go out for a meal at a restaurant doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good meal! Experiment with a new recipe for dinner and make your meals feel special. Turn on your favorite song, get the whole family involved, and have a fun time with it!

A Self-Care Staycation

Your mindset affects your entire life and affects your actions. And during these strange times, it’s even more critical to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s take this time to create healthy routines and come out of this quarantine healthier and happier!
